Programs for exchange students

Students from partner institutions can study at Jissen for one semester or for a full academic year as exchange students. Jissen’s Japanese language courses are available for students of all levels, so each student can create an engaging schedule of classes at the appropriate level. Those students whose Japanese is at the N1 level or its equivalent may also enroll in mainstream academic courses. Jissen’s partner institutions are listed here.

We offer two types of Japanese language programs to exchange students of all proficiency levels.

Intensive Japanese Language Program

This program admits international students at the beginner to intermediate Japanese language levels (JLPT N5~N3). Previous Japanese language study is not required for students enrolled in this program. Because class sizes are small, each student can expect lessons tailored to her needs.

International Exchange Program

This program is designed for international students at the high-intermediate to advanced Japanese language proficiency levels (JLPT N1 and N2). International students at the upper-proficiency levels (JLPT N1) may enroll in regular mainstream courses conducted in Japanese, in addition to Japanese as a Second Language courses. They will receive credit upon successful completion of both types of courses. N2 level students may audit mainstream courses with prior approval on a case by case basis.
